Michelle Obama supports Tiafoe in US Open semifinals

NEW YORK — Michelle Obama waved her arms in the air and yelled, “Let’s go, Foe!”

Down on the U.S. Open court below, Frances Tiafoe was pleased to see he had a new fan.

The former First Lady was on hand to support Tiafoe through his five-set effort against Carlos Alcaraz on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Among those cheering for Frances Tiafoe for the semifinals, the American shouted out to one fan in particular: former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Mrs. Obama enjoyed special recognition on the Arthur Ashe Stadium jumbotron, Tiafoe, a DMV native, admitted he saw her just as the match was getting underway.

Actually, Tiafoe gave her a good show, taking No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz to a fifth set before falling 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3.

“Seen her before, but it's a little bit different circumstances. She sees me and she's actually excited to see me. Yeah, unbelievable. Unbelievable night.”
